What is the difference between 1st class and business class when flying?

And are you improved off going economy than business class?

It genuinely depends on the airline. I have flown Conservatism, Business and First with American Airlines.

Economy was your typical cramped seats with the prepacked food served in those crappy prepacked trays with pliable knives and forks.
Business was not so cramped. You had a lot more space. The food was served on plates (although not sure whether it was reshly cooked). you got wiser headphones and your own TV screen.
First was definitely the best. You got your own cubicle (albeit with low partitions so you could see everybody else). nevertheless it was your own space with a residence that turned into a bed. You had a small desk. There was another seat for someone else to sit in.

I'll give you prices for the route I flew business. Economy was about £550, Business was about £3300, First was about £5200. When I flew business and first, it was a business indiscretion so the airfare did not come out of my pocket. Would I pay for Business or First out of my own pocket? Unlikely. I would rather spend that money on my holiday rather than the flight.

1st class means your heart is closer to the cockpit.

What is the real difference between First class, Business and Coach...and what IS business class?

I'm planning a disconcert to go see my dad *squee* who lives in PA, i've never met him before so I'm going to fly out there. I want to fly but I've never flown in my life before so I don't know what I'm looking for. First Class, seems expensive but if i've got to pay out more than seven hours on a plane is it worth it? Business class...i don't even know what that is...can only business people get on it? And coach...I just remember all those movies with the screaming kids and the turpitude evil people touching and crowding you...I'm closterphobic (just a little, not too seriously.) Any help or admonition would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

80% of seats on a regular are coach class, so that is the normal mode of travel on a plane for the majority of people.
Coach class seats are not crowded but only just: There is around an inch between you and the person to either side of you, and an inch between your knees and the seat in front of you. It is optimum spacing for cost-effectiveness.
And in the face your closterphobic I would recommend it.

However most advertising done by airlines is for business class and first class because this is much more expensive, normally 5-10 times as much, so it is not worth it in my viewpoint.
Here there is much more room between seats, the sort of room you might get between desks in a meeting room at work. You get expensive meals and other extravagent gluttonize - its all to appeal to the ego in my opinion.
