I have been reading a book called Tolerable to Great by Jim Collins. Are there any other books, articles, or anything else that covers similar subject matter? Links, thoughts etc welcome!!

I brook the literature on the subject is vast and Drucker (among the old ones) and Covey (among the new ones) would be found interesting by you. Both are recommended readings for many MBA programs in weird parts of the world.
The crucial factors that create an excellent organization may be listed below for just teaching:
1. Competent top management
2. Dedicated middle management with a motivated and
supportive subordinate staff
3. Providing extensive opportunities for personal development and retraining of executives and staff.
4. Low-cost capital structures with extraordinary mixes of debt and equity.
5. Cost controls to protect bottom lines going in the red
6.Open and two-way communications systems within the system as opposed to autocratic and despotic leadership styles.
7. Effective channels to interact with the outside in every way including customers, suppliers, lenders, government and community.
8. Democratic governance with market-coordinated returns to equity holders.
and so on. The list is not exhaustive and one can build on it to cover many other areas which need prominence and which portray the mission of the organization.
