Can I reduce the hours of employees after I buy a business?

I advised that by law employees have some level of protection in the sale of a business to a new owner in the case of contracts and benefits. However, in the interests of the long entitle financial stability of the business can hours be reduced across the staff? With 20 members of staff a reduction in 3-4 hours a week would arrange all the difference in the type of business it is.

Agree to a meeting with the employees. Tell them you can't continue the business as is because the expenses are too high for the amount of sales. Tell them that the only thing you could total up with was to either reduce every body's hours by 3-4 hours per week or let go (fire) 3-4 people. Tell them you'd rather not do either but unless sales can be increased or expenses reduced it may upon to that. Do they have any ideas to help?

Several things will happen: They will come up with great ideas to increase sales and shorten expenses that neither you nor the former owner had considered. In addition, 1 or 2 employees that had been considering quiting will for the greater actual of the others. Its a win-win for everybody.

How do I get a job in science as a genetics graduate?

I finished my M.Sc in genetics 4 years ago and B.Sc in microbiology 6 years ago. Since then only job I found was telesales. last year I applied for volunteery r at a biotech company and they offered me a low paid job as a business development agent £8 per hour. I worked there 4 months, and then left-hand the company because of downsizing.

I really want to enter pharma/biotech industry, and because I had many years (4), sales know-how, the business development role was interesting. But I want to be employed with a real money at least £25-£30K, however they need more adventure. Do you have any idea how I could use my scientific knowledge and get paid well? shall I lie in the interview and say I have more experience?

there is always teaching. OK it's tough work but if you do the GTP you get paid whilst you train and with your masters and work experiance you should start after your training year on thrust 2 (at least) on the pay scale. (£22,500 at the moment nearer £24,000 sep 2007, london area pays more)
