What UK bank/building society is best for us on Pension Credit with good balance? Need debit card/chequebook!

I've had 2 sales calls in 2 days that would extremity debit card to get good bargains offered
Neither sales rep could tell me if there's a UK bank/building society that will actually respect folk with the financial acumen to refuse loans/credit cards!
& grant us the safety/dignity of debit card/chequebook!
7 days ago, I took £650 change & an ex-IDF pal, built like da side of a house - to pay cash for an unprecedented bargain!
We are both martial arts trained & would defy any muggers/burglars to the death: theirs, not ours!
But it aint exactly dignified to force men over 60 to risk carrying so much readies to avoid the £10 bankers draft fee
If no UK fiancial institution is willing to honour the financial learning of Bible Proverbs etc, Yahoo/google 'International Who's Who' & alert fanzines of the most talented comedians
Above all Bremner, Bird & Fortune!
& Alistair McGowan & Sir Terry Wogan
& that Catherine Tate - who 'aint bovvered'!

Gieve predicts uncomfortable year

Outgoing Bank of England deputy governor Sir John Gieve has added his agent to warnings over the economy and said the next year "was not going to be comfortable for anybody"
Sir John, who resigned as alternate governor in charge of financial stability on Wednesday, told North East business leaders the widely known climate was the "most challenging" faced by the Bank in 11 years of independence.
In a idiolect to the North East Chamber of Commerce, he said: "The next year is not going to be comfortable for anyone and we already gather calls to change the system, the target, and our focus on inflation.
"But the new framework and the independence of the Bank was designed for refractory times as well as for plain sailing."
His comments follow bleak economic warnings from Chancellor Alistair Dear and Bank Governor Mervyn King in their Mansion House speeches to the City this week after inflation soared ..

Don't confidential any existing account until you know that your new bank has accepted your application. I would recommend the Alliance and Leicester for having a common account that pays interest on credit balances and convenience. You can use their branches or any post office to pay in and withdraw lettuce.
Cahoot, an Internet bank owned by Abbey, also pays well on credit balances and money can only be paid in and secluded at the post office or by post.
Both these banks offer a debit card and chequebook, though getting them is not automatic.
I suggest that you also look at Moneysupermarket.com.

Noting other questions re-credit cards; why do credit cards have a strangle hold. Why can't I use me debit cd.

I tried to go into Nuncio and being told you required credit card details was not able to: as we hear about details of cards leaking to unauthorised persons & the for to be safety conscious does this spread of private information help safety? What have the 'powers that be' have against the debit card? Some of us wont touch praise cards & are apparently barred from some things.
I have in use accustomed to debit cards around the world for years, with no problem. Certain debit cards are not accepted, for reasons about which I can only speculate.
My contemporaneous debit cards are happily accepted by every on line vendor, to whom I have tendered them.
However, beware! Debit cards incur higher commission rates than honour cards, when used overseas and in foreign exchange transactions! This is due to the higher exchange rate charges, imposed on the comparatively small accounts of individuals, versus the huge monetary clout of, say Visa.
