Is it worth having private health insurance, if I want to have a baby in Ireland or is it a waste of money?

I am hoping to have a toddler in the next year or so but I don't have private health insurance.I was quoted 700 euro today for a policy, that I would have to pay over 2 years before I would be eligible to have pregnancy cover. I'm already in my 30's so don't want to wait 2 years before I start trying to get pregnant. Would it not be cheaper to "pay-as-I-go"? Or where can I go to for some clear advice? Help!
if you go as a viewable patient your antenatal care, delivery, postnatal care plus doctors visits during your pregnancy and for 6 weeks after deliverance will be paid by the health service. my sister in law went private with her first child and she didn't have any better antenatal love than i did, she was in the same ward as public patients and with her next 3 pregnancies went as a public patient since you get the exact same care. the only conflict was that as a private patient she saw her consultant at every hospital visit, while when you go public you'll only see the consultant if there is a problem with the pregnancy or if you have a acute risk pregnancy.
public maternity services are free in ireland and you would waste your money if you only took out health insurance for parenthood cover. but it would be good to have health insurance anyway for other health issues and hospital stays that you might have in the future...

i don't hunger tot call them for a quote: the cheapest and most expensive for a family of four.
For me alone, I was quoted £84 per month.
Suprise suprise, I chose not to take up their suggest.
As already said, it does depend on your history of health, age, etc.
Give them a ring though, I didn't find them pushy like others can be.
Good fluke :D
